Using Keyword Research To Gain Traffic

Every webmaster has one thing in common, and it is that they want top listings in search engines. Choosing the right keywords is very crucial to your success on the internet. The most important part of an online business is keyword research. If you pass up keyword research in the beginning, you will find yourself passing up a lot of cash.
Many website owners that fail after a few months usually recommend using long tail keywords to start. I have no idea who came up with this logic, but it can be a real waste of time. It is rare to find long tail keywords that even get searched. I have noticed that there many new website owners that optimize for search terms that never get searched.
You really need to look for keywords that get searched but aren’t being optimized very well. You should not base your keyword choice on whether it is long tail or not. The length of a keyword does not indicate how competitive it is. There are many long tail keywords that are being optimized by a lot of people, which leads to it being harder to rank well.
I will let you know exactly what I do for keyword research. I look for keywords that I would want to rank well for. Next, I use a software called Keyword Elite to find out the monthly search volume for each term. I do not use the Google Keyword Tool because I don’t think it’s very accurate.
After that, I search the keywords that are getting a decent amount of visitors. I use Yahoo to examine the websites that have the number one position for their inbound links. I look to see if the site is getting backlinks with the keyword in them.
If most of the links do not contain the keyword in them, then I know that the website owner is a rookie. With relevant backlinks and patience, I will easily be able to get the number one spot for that certain keyword.
New website owners get scared of competition and don’t realize that it’s actually not that hard to rank well. You have to understand that most website owners don’t even know anything about search engine optimization. If you do find website owners that aren’t doing good search engine optimization, you should be able to take their position and make money.
