The San Deigo used office furniture company has recently sent its website live, offering companies the chance to buy top name brands such as Steelcase and Herman Miller for a fraction of the price than it is to buy it new.
Would you have second hand office furniture in your place of work? EBay proved its not so bad to purchase second hand goods and bought the second hand market global in a way it handed been before. The question here is not why have second hand office furniture, but why not have second furniture. When the company receive the furniture they rebuilt it if thats required and clean it to ensure it is in top quality condition. If you still have doubts about the quality visit the showroom and see for yourself.
If you dont make a fuss about it being second hand i doubt they would notice- a placebo type effect, in a way. All the furniture leaves the store being as high quality as possible, so could your staff tell if they were second hand? Problems could arise from staff refusing to use the furniture or management being labelled cheap. Theres always been a stigma attached to buying second hand goods- too cheap to want to buy something new, it wont work properly. And while EBay has helped to get the majority of people to accept second hand goods, some people will still pay extra for a completely new product. If it makes you happy, then fine, but dont turn up a top quality second hand product through snobbishness.
Are we seeing the beginning of a new niche market? Maybe, as the recession cuts the amount of money businesses have to spend, we could well see them going second hand to get brand name furniture at cheaper prices. If the items really do leave the store in a great condition, then this ‘trend’ could really take off.
