Employees Are A Firms Greatest Asset. Is This True For Debt Collection When Chasing A Large Company That Has Left The Latest Invoice Late?

This could seem like well worn management speak, but in the current economic downturn, when a small enterprise finds that their latest invoice for jobs completed or items sold to a regular larger enterprise has gone unpaid beyond the agreed final payment date could the small enterprises personnel have something to offer in the Debt Collection activity?

When faced with this situation the small enterprise would contact the larger enterprise in the first instance and uncover what is happening. The hope would be that a simple mistake had been made and the invoice was simply overlooked but would now be paid as soon as possible. If the reply was not so clear but possibly seemed like the large enterprise was playing for time then the small enterprise could feel that they were being used as a free credit service and could well look to Debt Collection options. Given the economic downturn and the fact that the finance houses still seem reluctant to offer financial support to small companies, despite strong advice to the finance houses from the Chancellor of the Exchequer to the contrary, the small enterprise could not be attracted to lawyers or Debt Collection agencies because of the fees charged. These fees could be in the range of 8% to 10% or more of the outstanding debt and payable as a deduction on settlement, there could also be expenses to be factored in as well. The option of doing the Debt Collection themselves with Debt Collection Software can appear attractive from a financial viewpoint since decent systems can be purchased for under £100. The small enterprise will also have to factor in resources such as personnel and possibly IT hardware or infrastructure should the Debt Collection Software have a minimum hardware spec higher than what the small enterprise currently has to offer.

When it comes to personnel resources, this is where they really can be the enterprises best asset, for they could be the difference between success and failure. When assessing Debt Collection Software the small enterprise should look for an application that has a good manual, which can explain how the Debt Collection activity works. The Debt Collection Software should also explain how Debt Collection Letters should be written and also should include samples of Debt Collection Letters for each part of the Debt Collection activity. In this way the personnel should be able to get a good understanding of the Debt Collection activity and the part they play in it and also an insight in how to compose good Debt Collection Letters. The Debt Collection Software should have templates for the Debt Collection Letters so that the personnel can use these as a basis for real Debt Collection Letters. The personnel ear marked for this should be computer literate and also have a good command of the English language since the quality of the Debt Collection Letters depends not only on the Debt Collection idioms content but also on the spelling and correct use of grammar. A good idea would be to have the Debt Collection Letters proof read before sending out so that any problems can be trapped and put right before the large enterprise sees them. The personnel can be more valuable once they have some skill in Debt Collection, especially in the writing of good quality Debt Collection Letters so that if future Debt Collection is needed they can be relied on to do a good job.
